The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is an institute of the University of Tasmania. The AMC specializes in maritime training and caters for those individuals who wish to work or are already working in the maritime industry.

The AMC provides training in two specific streams:

• Degree/bachelor courses – which include undergraduate or post graduate degrees.
• Seafaring/industry courses – which include ocean and seafaring courses classed as Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas, Certificates and Pre-vocational (Vocational courses include Deck Watchkeeper, Mate/Masters).

If you are studying within the seafaring or industry stream at the Newnham campus you will need to apply for accommodation online by creating an account, and completing an application for "AMC Seafaring Vocational Courses". Seafaring and Industry students have designated blocks assigned to them at Investigator Hall – at present they are unable to access rooms at Leprena or Kerslake. 

Current Industry fees can be viewed on our fees and charges page. If you are company sponsored (i.e. your company is paying your residential fees and meal costs) please provide your company contact details when making your booking. If you are not company sponsored, you will need to pay a $500 security deposit plus a $150 holding fee and two week's rent in advance, prior to arrival. Rent is due fortnightly – you can arrange for a direct debit or pay via BPay or in person at the administration office at Newnham. Stays for up to five weeks need to be paid upfront prior to arrival.

When we offer you a placement, you will be asked to accept and agree to a number of conditions inline with our Accommodation Services Residency Agreement. This agreement outlines the terms and conditions of your stay in residence – please take the time to read this document as completing the Acceptance step during the online application process will require you to agree to the terms outlined.

The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is a tertiary education institution based in Launceston, Tasmania and is an institute of the University of Tasmania. AMC is Australia's national centre for maritime education, training and research. The institution has two campuses located within 50 kilometres (31 mi) of each other in Northern Tasmania, each with different facilities and residence.

AMC comprises three national centres that offer courses in maritime engineering, marine environment, maritime logistics and seafaring. The national centres are:

• The National Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics 
• The National Centre for Ports and Shipping
• The National Centre for Marine Environment and Resource Sustainability

AMC also has a commercial arm, AMC Search Ltd, that provides maritime related training and consultancy for a wide range of international and Australian organisations and individuals including the Federal Government Pacific Patrol Boat Program.

Along the years, the institution provide students with flexible course options, with opportunities for full-time, part-time and online distance study. Whether it’s captaining a vessel, safeguarding marine environments, designing advanced ocean engineering structures, farming seafood or keeping the world’s goods moving; AMC offers a wide range of courses, including vocational certificates at many levels, bachelor degrees and diplomas; as well as postgraduate certificates and degrees, including doctorates.

AMC has two campuses and a Fire Fighting Centre all located in Northern Tasmania, Australia. The main campus is based in Launceston and situated beside the University of Tasmania at Newnham on the Tamar River.

The second campus, based at Beauty Point about 45km north of Launceston delivers courses in vessel operations and the training vessels MV Bluefin, Stephen Brown, Skipjack and Riveresco are moored here.
