Học viện tìm kiếm việc cung cấp cách tiếp cận đa diện trong việc nghiên cứu các dân tộc Hồi giáo thông qua khuôn khổ của các nền văn hóa trên thế giới, Khoa học Xã hội và Nhân văn. Cách tiếp cận này được phản ánh trong chương trình đào tạo Thạc sĩ và các khóa học ngắn hạn, và cả hoạt động nghiên cứu cùng các ấn phẩm. 

Trường có các khóa học ngắn hạn dành cho sinh viên quốc tế:

• ISMC mang các khóa học ngắn hạn nhằm kích thích trí tuệ, tạo cảm hứng và sự kiện xã hội, nhằm bao quát một loạt các chủ đề cho sinh viên, các chuyên gia và các học giả.
• Viện cũng thiết kế các chương trình tùy chỉnh theo nhu cầu đối tác, các tổ chức, cũng như chương trình hè trong 2 tuần với Trung tâm của Đại học Simon Fraser về Nghiên cứu so sánh các nền văn hóa và xã hội Hồi giáo.

• ISMC has an arrangement to accommodate students in Opal House, a hall of residence in North London. 
• Each bedroom has a bed, desk, chair, clothes storage and an en-suite shower room/toilet. 
• Each cluster of four to six bedrooms shares a living area with a shared kitchen and food storage facilities, dining table, chairs, sofa and a TV. 
• Opal House also has relaxation rooms, bike storage, laundry facilities as well as a security presence.
• The accommodation includes the cost of hot water, heating, electricity and shared TV in the living area. 
• In the second year, subject to approval by the Director of ISMC, students may be allowed to live in independent accommodation. 

Our Faculty are committed to producing research that is recognised throughout the world for its quality, relevance and influence. Faculty and institutional research projects are oriented around three major themes:

• Understanding Processes of Change in Muslim Cultures and Societies
• The Construction of Knowledge about Muslim Cultures and Societies
• Governance in Muslim Contexts

Within these broad areas, the Institute facilitates and promotes research on a wide range of topics. Current research areas include: the changing role of law in Muslim societies; gender; development; late antiquity; art and architecture; bioethics and Muslims in Western contexts.

The Aga Khan University Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations is based in London and is operated through the Aga Khan University (International) in the UK.
